Good postnatal care is about so much more than individual checks. Having someone who gets to know you, your baby and your family can make a real difference during those first few weeks.
Continuity of care has always been at the heart of my midwifery practice. It allows concerns to be picked up early, gives you the space to ask questions as they arise, and means you don’t have to keep starting again with someone new.
It is also one of the most researched areas of maternity care. Women cared for by a midwife they know report more positive experiences of pregnancy, birth and the weeks after, and early research suggests it can help with anxiety and low mood too. Where the same midwife also cares for women in labour, they are more likely to have a straightforward vaginal birth and less likely to need a caesarean. My private care does not include the birth itself, but it brings that same continuity to your pregnancy and your first weeks at home, with someone who already knows you and your baby.
Having recently become a mother myself, I also understand those early weeks from the other side. I know how vulnerable the postnatal period can feel, how many questions can appear once you’re home, and just how valuable it is to feel genuinely cared for and supported.
My aim is to provide the kind of postnatal care I believe every new family deserves: unhurried, compassionate and individualised care for both you and your baby, from someone who already knows your story.
Feeding support is part of every visit too, as I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) as well as a midwife.

Alongside your maternity care
Your main maternity care stays with your NHS team or your private obstetrician. In pregnancy, your antenatal appointments, scans and screening tests carry on as normal, and an antenatal visit with me sits alongside them, with time to talk things through at home.
After the birth, how much NHS postnatal care you have is entirely up to you. Some families keep all of it and have me as well. Others see their community midwives for the day five visit and have me for the rest.
Either way, the newborn blood spot screening at around day five is part of the national screening programme and is usually taken by your community midwives, so that is the one visit to keep. Your GP and health visitor are there as usual.
Providing safe care is at the heart of everything I do. If I feel your care will benefit from other healthcare professionals, I will support you in navigating a smooth, timely referral.

Most families book the postnatal package while still pregnant, and that is the best way to do it: the first visit can then happen within 72 hours of you coming home, rather than being arranged while you are finding your feet.
If your circumstances change, get in touch. I will always find a fair answer, including a full refund where the care has not been given.
